Augusta Traiana — A settlement in Thrace also known as Beroe
Augusta Traiana was founded as Beroe by Phillip II of Macedon in 342 BC. Under the Roman Empire, the town was renamed to Ulpia Augusta Traiana in honour of emperor Trajan.

The Ottomans conquered Stara Zagora in 1371.
